WWE Reportedly Looking at Ronda Rousey to Save ‘Total Divas’ Amid Series Low Ratings

With the current season of Total Divas continuing to deliver series low ratings week after week, WWE is understandably looking for way to save their long-running reality program.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one idea WWE is considering is approaching Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey to become a full-time cast member of the show. Obviously, with Rousey being one of the most recognizable sports icons in the world, it’s likely they could remodel the show around her for a major arc and increase their ratings, at least for awhile.

There are two questions – whether or not the money to bring her in would ultimately be worth it, and whether or not she’d take the role in the first place. The Observer’s report indicated that at press time, earlier this past week, WWE officials had yet to reach out to the former UFC Champion about the idea, but that may well have changed over the last few days.

Total Divas is currently contracted through nine seasons on E!, but with the last three episodes all coming in under 400,0000 viewers, WWE is going to need something big to help boost ratings if they want a chance at getting renewed again.

To put those numbers in perspective, the most recently season of Total Bellas averaged just over 630,000 viewers per episode, actually growing from the year before with the benefit of the highly publicized John Cena and Nikki Bella relationship. The first season of Miz & Mrs. on the USA network averaged 1.26 million per episode.
