– Seth Rollins (c) vs. Randy Orton
We’re back from the commercial and it’s now time for our main event of the evening, a WWE World Heavyweight Championship one-on-one match between Seth Rollins and Randy Orton. Orton won the right to challenge for the title tonight here on RAW by winning a triple-threat match against Kevin Owens and Cesaro earlier in the evening.
Both guys maketheir way to the ring. Lilian Garcia does the formal, official introductions for this, our WWE World Heavyweight Championship bout of the evening here on Monday Night Raw.
Early on, Rollins immediately rolls out to the floor in an attempt to avoid Orton. He comes back in the ring but ultimately stalls yet again. Finally, Orton backs Rollins into a corner and the match is officially underway. Rollins starts getting in some offense, but out of nowhere, Orton goes for an RKO, but misses. On that note, we head to a mid-match commercial break, our final commercial of the evening.
When we return from commercial, we see Rollins is still in control of the offense in the match. Orton starts to mount a bit of a comeback, however Rollins cuts his efforts short. Rollins goes back to the floor. He grabs the title as fans boo. Rollins goes to leave but Orton clotheslines him into the timekeeper’s area. Orton slams Rollins’ head into the announce table and slams him onto it. Orton brings it back in the ring. Rollins gets in a cheap shot. He almost throws Orton into the referee but Orton avoids making contact with him just in time.
The WWE champ bickers with the ref about what just happened with the referee and Orton rolls him up for another near fall. Rollins with a kick to the face. Rollins goes to the top but Orton crotches him. Orton climbs up for a superplex and nails it but Rollins kicks out at two. Rollins goes for the Pedigree but it’s countered. Orton takes Rollins to the apron for the draping DDT but Rollins knocks Rollins to the apron and hits a kick to the head. Rollins grabs Orton and gets booed as he goes for Orton’s draping DDT spot off the middle ropes. Rollins hits him with his own move.
The former Shield member then plays to the crowd as they get on his case with loud jeers. Rollins drops down and pretends to turn into “Viper Mode,” mocking Orton once again. Rollins stalks Orton and goes for a Pedigree but Orton counters. Orton blocks another Pedigree attempt by Rollins. Rollins goes to the top but Orton catches him in mid-air with a big RKO for a very close and believable near fall, however Sheamus ends up running in and breaking things up, prompting the referee to call for the bell.
After the match, “The Celtic Warrior” tries to continue to deliver punishment on Orton, however “The Viper” manages to blast the Irishman with an “RKO out of nowhere.” Orton stands tall over Rollins and Sheamus as this week’s edition of WWE RAW goes off the air.
