WWE presents SmackDown!/ECW Live!
January 7, 2008 – First Arena – Elmira, New York
3,500 plus Sold Out the First Arena for the first WWE event in Elmira, New York for the first time since August of 2006. Justin Roberts came out and welcomed everyone and introduced the Asst. General Manager of SmackDown! Theodore Long who announced the main matches of the evening and that Vickie Guerrero was not here tonight.
Jamie Noble defeated Deuce
Jamie Noble pinned Deuce for the win at about 15 minutes.
Nattie Neidhardt defeated Victoria
Kelly Kelly was the special referee for the contest. Neidhardt picked up the victory pinning Victory with a roll up.
The Miz & John Morrison defeated Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore
The Miz and John Morrison kept doing Val Venis poses during this match. Moore dodged a moved by Morrison which landed Morrison’s head right between the legs of The Miz. The crowed laughed the entire match and Morrison picked up the victory by pinning Jimmy Wang Yang following a corckscrew neckbreaker to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships.
Kenny Dykstra defeated Charles Evans
Kenny Dykstra pinned Charles Evans with a roll up and pulling the tights for leverage.
Tommy Dreamer defeated Kevin Thorn
Tommy Dreamer pinned Kevin Thorn after a Dreamer DDT.
Finlay defeated Montel Vantavious Porter (DQ)
On RAW, Mr. McMahon told Hornswoggle that Finlay was not thier and this explains that this time he was not in Belfast, Ireland and that he was in Elmira, New York. This match was announced by Theodore Long and was contested for the United States Championship. MVP acted afraid at the begining because Finlay chased him around with the shillelagh. During the match, Finlay was busted up after MVP hit his head of the ring steps. At the end Finlay sent MVP outside and went to grad the shillelagh but referee Charles Robinson took it away and as Finlay went to grab MVP, he nailed Finlay in the leg with a chair and got Disqualified.
Intermission
CM Punk defeated Chavo Guerrero and Shelton Benjamin
CM Punk pinned Shelton Benjamin after the Go To Sleep (GTS) to retain the ECW Championship in a Triple Threat Match.
Kofi Kingston defeated Nunzio
Kofi Kingston is the superstar from Jamaica whos debut promos have been airing during ECW on SciFi the past few weeks. He pinned Nunzio after the Cool Runnings (540 kick).
Edge defeated Batista
Batista was first to the ring with a standing ovation from the sell out crowd at the First Arena. Edge came to ring with Boos and You Sucks. Edge went to get in the ring but Batista chased him away. Edge got on the mic and said “This town isn’t even big enough to be found on a GPS and told everyone that Elmira sucks and not him.” Batista finally got Edge in the ring and the bell sounds. Batista takes it to Edge most of the match with Edge doing dirty moves like slamming Batista’s solder off the ring post. Edge tryed getting counted out but Theodore Long came out and told Edge that “Vickie Guerrero was not at the event and if he got counted out or Disqualified he would loose the World Heavyweight Championship.” In the end The Edge-Heads (Brett and Brian Majors) interfeared and distraced referee Mickie Henson as Batista went for the Batista bomb and Edge nailed the Animal with the World Heavyweight Championship to score the pinfall and retain the championship. Following the match, Edge and The Edge-Heads attacked Batista but he fought off all three and hit the Batista bomb on Edge. Batista celebrated with the fans as he went backstages and Edge and company walked back and messed around with the music as the show came to a close.
Other Notes:
Batista did an autograph session at the Elmira Best Buy from 4pm-6pm with lines going from one end of the building to the other end. As we were leaving the building people were handing out flyers advertising TNA Wrestling at the First Arena in Elmira, New York on February 23, 2008, tickets go on-sale January 14, 2008 at 10:00am.
