VIDEO: Madusa talks about the current state of women’s wrestling

Madusa joined Wrestling Observer Radio on Tuesday to discuss the current state of women’s wrestling, among other topics.

In the clip, which you can see below, Dave Meltzer mentions that even as recently as 2013, WWE didn’t like women working the same style as the men. Madusa agrees that it was only recently that things have improved, and that today’s style more reflects what she was doing during her career.

“It’s about time,” Madusa said. “This era today is definitely my style. This is what I was doing. As you were saying, I was so ahead of my time. It’s so good to see this and have it all aired out that women are given the right to wrestle at the level just like the men, given that opportunity to headline WrestleMania and the TV shows.”

Madusa also said that while today’s women’s wrestling is more her style, there also needs to be more women’s segments on the shows, saying that at the end of the day, it is about marketing and presentation.

“You’re only as good as your team,” she said. “You can have the best makeup, the best hair, the best outfits, and you can train like hell and get in there and do your best German suplex. But you’re not as good as your marketing team and who puts up that ring and who’s following you with that camera and the writers…it’s all about marketing, you know that, that’s the key.”

The Woman Who Would Be King: The Madusa Story, is set to be released on March 28.
