Rumors have been flying for weeks now that NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa has been dealing with an undisclosed injury, and Dave Meltzer is now reporting via Wrestling Observer Radio that the champ is set to undergo neck surgery within the next few days.

Ciampa has been reportedly pulled from all upcoming dates will not be able to compete for “a long, long time” following the surgery, according to Meltzer’s report. An exact timetable is unknown at this time, and doctors will likely have a more specific estimate following surgery later this week.

Ciampa will unfortunately miss WrestleMania weekend, which means he will likely be vacating the NXT Championship as the planned match with Johnny Gargano at NXT Takeover: New York — something WWE has been building towards for a very long time now — obviously won’t be happening.

UPDATE: WWE.com is reporting that Ciampa will undergo an anterior cervical fusion surgery tomorrow (Thursday), following a medical evaluation.
