An update has been provided regarding what WWE had planned as the ‘big surprise’ for the debut episode of WWE Backstage.
Last week, Renee Young was part of a video teasing a ‘big special guest’ for the debut episode of the show, which was supposed to be announced on Friday Night SmackDown this week.
That announcement never ended up happening, and according to a report by the Wrestling Observer Radio, that is because WWE was forced to change plans due to travel delays in Saudi Arabia.
Originally, it was believed that either Brock Lesnar or Paul Heyman (or both together) was planned for the show where the announcement that he was quitting SmackDown was set to happen. Obviously, that ended up taking place on SmackDown instead, so it is now unknown what the plans are in regards to WWE Backstage.
For clarification purposes, Meltzer’s full comments can be seen below with a H/T to SEScoops.com for the transcription.
“The Lesnar and Heyman thing where Lesnar goes to RAW, that was scheduled, but it was scheduled to be done on Tuesday to kick off the new Backstage weekly show at 11 o’clock,” Dave Meltzer said.
