The UFC will return to network TV for the first time in two years as the main card from their Saturday, January 16th show from Fight Island will air live on ABC in addition to ESPN+.
Unlike past network efforts, the Max Holloway vs. Calvin Kattar-led show will air in the afternoon, kicking off at 3 PM Eastern with the prelims starting at noon Eastern on ESPN+.
It will have stiff competition as it will be opposite an NFL divisional playoff game.
The news was first rumored on December 22nd with Dana White sharing a headline of a story on MMA Junkie on his Instagram account. This will be the UFC’s first network event since December 15, 2018, for their final event on Fox after a six-year run.
As of right now, Tom Breese vs. Omari Akhmedov and David Zawada vs. Ramazan Emeev are the only other announced main card fights other than Holloway vs. Kattar. The January 16th event will be the first on the UFC’s 2021 calendar and the first of three shows in eight days at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.
