A pair of stipulations have been added to Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre’s WWE Championship match at Hell in a Cell.
During a contract signing segment on tonight’s Raw, it was announced that Lashley vs. McIntyre at Hell in a Cell will now be a Hell in a Cell match. The match also now has a stipulation where — if McIntyre loses — he won’t be able to challenge for the WWE Championship again while Lashley is still champion.
The latter stipulation was proposed by Lashley. McIntyre accepted and then said that he wanted their match to take place inside of Hell in a Cell so that there can’t be any outside interference. Lashley agreed to the stipulation.
McIntyre became the number one contender to Lashley’s WWE Championship by defeating Kofi Kingston on Raw last week. McIntyre and Kingston’s number one contender’s match had originally taken place the week prior to that, but Lashley and MVP caused it to end in a no contest by attacking them both.
Lashley has been WWE Champion since defeating The Miz for the title this March. In storyline, Miz and Lashley made a deal where Lashley got that title shot for helping Miz cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase on McIntyre.
Lashley retained the WWE Championship by defeating McIntyre at WrestleMania 37 in April. At WrestleMania Backlash, Lashley defeated Braun Strowman and McIntyre in a triple threat match to retain the title. Lashley pinned Strowman to win that match.
This is the first Hell in a Cell match set for this year’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. The event is taking place on Sunday, June 20.
