There were certainly a ton of standouts during the Mae Young Classic tournament on the WWE Network last year. The tournament was such a success that it will be returning later this year, and WWE has signed some of the best participants from the tournament, such as Candice LeRae. One of the most impressive participants in last year’s tournament was Toni Storm. At only a young age, Storm has emerged as a true star on the UK independent wrestling circuit and in Japan. It was surprising when WWE did not attempt to sign Storm after the Mae Young Classic tournament ended, but it looks like Storm may be on her way into the company for good very soon.
According to a new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Toni Storm has signed a contract to officially join WWE. The belief is that she will be working the upcoming United Kingdom Championship Tournament show for WWE, but there is no word on what the company plans to do with her after that. Storm has also apparently turned down a few different offers to join WWE in the past because she wanted to continue wrestling for promotions such as STARDOM and Pro Wrestling: EVE. Storm is scheduled to defend her PROGRESS Women’s Championship against Jinny at the promotion’s Be Here Now event this Sunday. If she loses the title, that would indicate that she is definitely coming to WWE.
Although the female members of the WWE roster were controversially left off of The Greatest Royal Rumble show in Saudi Arabia last week, there have been conflicting reports suggesting that the company decided to pay the women for the show anyway. The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided an update on the situation. The report mentions that none of the women have been paid for the Greatest Royal Rumble and they are not expected to be compensated at all. Reports of female WWE Superstars being payed for the Greatest Royal Rumble first surfaced after WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler made the claim during one of the episodes of his podcasts.
