Thanks to Steve Carell’s Saturday Night Live opening monologue, fans of The Office were treated to a mock Q&A where he was asked about a potential reboot by his fellow former Office cast members.
Ellie Kemper, who played Erin Hannon and is the star of Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, was up first and told him, in regards to The Office reboot, “I need that money. Let’s get that money, Steve!”
When he said it probably wouldn’t be such a good idea, she promptly replied, “you’re a jerk,” and sat down.
Ed Helms, who played Andy “The ‘Nard Dog” Bernard, tried to convince Steve that doing The Office reboot would be a great idea and would bring in so much money he “wouldn’t have to do all those sad movies anymore.”
Lastly, Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly/Halpert, brought up the final words Pam whispered to Michael as he was leaving for Denver (and the show!) for Holly.
Those words?
“Steve, don’t be a dick. Do the reboot!” She also asked, “don’t you want to see what Pam and Jeff are up to these days?”
Yes, you read that right, she jokingly messed up Jim Halpert’s name as part of the skit.
Steve’s wife and kids also showed up and echoed the sentiments that he really should just do the show.
He wrapped up the skit by bringing Erin, Andy, and Pam up on stage and said that he was “proud to announce, officially, that…we have a great show tonight!”
While fans may still have to wait a bit longer to see if a reboot/reunion of The Office will ever happen, it was a nice treat to see some of the cast together again.
The Office aired for nine season on NBC from 2005-2013 and was an adaptation of a BBC series with the same name starring Ricky Gervais.
There have been rumors that a revival of The Office was in the works at NBC and John Krasinski, Jim Halpert himself, has said that he’d “love to go back.”
While we wait and see if The Office will ever return, take a look at our list of the top 25 episodes of The Office and see how much money Jim actually spent to prank Dwight over all those years.
