The Mandalorian: Star Wars TV Series Casts Pedro Pascal in Lead Role

Pedro Pascal has been cast as the lead in the upcoming Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian, which will be streaming on Disney’s new service, Disney+, according to Variety.

Pascal — known best for his roles in Game of Thrones and Narcos — had been rumored for the part, but sources said multiple actors were being considered and nothing was confirmed. Sources close to Variety have now said negotiations are underway and Pascal has officially been offered the role.

Jon Favreau’s series is set after the ending of the Empire and before the First Order comes to be what we know it as today. He previously announced that it will take place after Jango and Boba Fett’s stories, and will focus on a “lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy,” and will be far from the New Republic’s authority.

Disney recently announced directors for The Mandalorian, with Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels’ Dave Filoni directing the first episode.

Thor: Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi, Jessica Jones’ Deborah Chow, and Dope’s Rick Famuyiwa will also be directing episodes, along with Jurassic World’s Bryce Dallas Howard – who’s known for directing short films such as Solemates.

Just last week, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which will be created into a series for Disney+, marking the second Star Wars installment for the streaming service.

The prequel will feature Cassian Andor in the years prior to the events in Rogue One, with Diego Luna coming back to reprise his role as Andor. Unlike the Mandalorian, the prequel will take place during the time of the Empire and the years forming the Rebellion.

While we wait for more details of Pascal’s role to be revealed, check out everything in our hub on The Mandalorian and how the series will reportedly cost $100 million for 10 episodes. Also, stay up to date on every upcoming Star Wars movie and show to be released.
