AJ Styles showed off a new look for the fans in Osaka, Japan earlier today when he entered the ring for his match against Kevin Owens wearing a mask and his Japanese gear with kanji written on it. Styles is no stranger to Japan as he is a former IWGP champion and was signed by the WWE in 2016 while still in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

There doesn’t seem to be much meaning behind the mask other than something he wore for a special entrance. It wouldn’t be the first time a WWE performer has used a mask for the Japanese fans. A number of years ago at a similar house show in the country CM Punk and John Cena wrestled a tag match wearing masks, Zubez pants, and Ribera Steakhouse jackets as an homage to touring foreign wrestlers of Japan’s past.
Speaking of the current Japan tour, The WWE released some comments from Shinsuke Nakamura about his return to Osaka on their twitter account.

Aside from being Japanese, Nakamura was signed by the WWE at the same time as Styles from New Japan Pro Wrestling where he was the IWGP Intercontinental champion at the time.
