Sami Zayn returns to the ring on WWE Raw

WWE’s post-WrestleMania 35 episode of Raw saw Sami Zayn return to the ring and cut a promo on the fans.

Zayn had his first match since June, unsuccessfully challenging for Finn Balor’s Intercontinental title on Raw. Zayn underwent surgeries for torn right and left rotator cuffs while he was out of action.

Zayn cut promos both before and after the match. Before it started, he said that if you’re going to miss WrestleMania — you may as well come back the night after. Zayn said his schedule is wide open and he could go for a match, which led to Balor’s music hitting.

After losing, Zayn said he thought coming out to the ring would cure what ails him — but all it did was reinforce what he’s realized over the past nine months. Zayn said it genuinely seems like the fans missed him, but he didn’t miss this or any of the fans.

Zayn called WWE a “super toxic environment.” He said it’s not because of the McMahons or the other wrestlers — it’s because of the audience. Zayn said that while he lives a meaningful and fulfilled life, the fans only get joy and satisfaction out of being critics.

Zayn asked if the fans really think they’re the voice of reason and the voices that should be heard. He said they’ve become the evil overlords of WWE. Zayn said he’s always been about doing what’s right, and now the right thing to do is to come out every week and hold the fans accountable.

“See you in hell,” Zayn said to close his promo.
