RAW Report 6/21/10 Bridgeport, Connecticut

This week’s RAW starts with music and pyro.

Stills from last night’s Fatal 4 Way PPV main event when the next Season 1 rookies interrupted and caused a sudden change in champions.

Vincent Kennedy McMahon out to the ring. He welcomes everyone to Monday night RAW. Last night there was sheer chaos in a main event causing a new Champion, Sheamus. There’s one person to blame and that’s Bret Hart. He told him he had to make tough decisions, not bad decisions. Bad decision being firing Wade Barrett. That started a whole chain of bad events. Bret was thrown in the back of a limo and shaken up a bit. No reason for him to not show up last night. He didn’t hire extra security and didn’t even bother to tip off the superstars that something might be happening. This is all on Bret Hart, all of it. “We want Bret” chants. As a result of this chaos, as the chairman of the board he has to relieve Bret of his duties. In other words Bret, you’re fired. This gives VKM closure. Now for the big announcement, a new GM is running things here. The new GM wants to remain anonymous. They will issue things through that computer. VKM points down to announce. He says when an email comes in, Cole will stand up and announce what the wishes are. Cole looks uncomfortable. VKM says you can’t blame a GM for wanting to stay anonymous. Ding-Ding and Cole says it’s an email from the new GM. By order of the new GM, all seven members of the new NXT group have been hired and will address the WWE Universe tonight. VKM says things are starting off with a bang, goodnight. Sheamus’ music hits and he comes out looking a bit odd. VKM announces Sheamus as he gets in the ring. Sheamus looks really out of sorts. “You suck” chants for Sheamus. Sheamus tells VKM that he’s sorry. This isn’t the way he wanted to win the WWE Championship. More than anything, last night he wanted to prove he belongs in the top echelon by beating three top superstars in the ring on his own. That didn’t happen. He says he doesn’t deserve it, can’t accept it under these conditions. He takes the strap off, looks at it, looks up and then hands it over to VKM, but then stops, smiles and takes it back saying he will anyway. Doesn’t matter how it happened, he is the new WWE Champion. What a glorious opportunity, what a glorious occasion. Before he gets carried away, he has a special message for the former NXT guys. That you for interfering, thank you for taking out Bret, thank you for taking out the guys out back last night and thank you for giving him the opportunity he needed. But before the NXT lads get carried away, he wants them to know he didn’t need their help. Everyone knows he could have won it all on his own. They think they made a statement last night? The only statement made was him winning his second WWE Championship. Now that he has it… Cena’s music cuts him off. Cena stomps out to the ring and grabs a mic. Cena smiles, shakes his head and shrugs. The fans are hot for him. Cena says to look at pasty, he’s in a great mood, thanking everyone. You’d think it was Thanksgiving. So allow him to join the party. He’d like to thank Mr. McMahon. New GM, anonymous, very mysterious, he’s interested. Cole, send a thank you, via email, for hiring the former NXT gibrones. Now he doesn’t have to worry if they’re going to show up, he knows they will. It’s a matter of time before he settles his issue with them. Thanks you human jar of mayonaise for winning the Fatal 4 Way. Cena went in Champion, so he gets a rematch. Thanks to Bridgeport. They know why, he can’t think of a better place for a WWE Championship Match. Sheamus says Cena can bark all he likes. He doesn’t care what he likes, there will be no WWE Championship Match tonight. Sheamus asks VKM to ask Cena to leave, or Sheamus will do it himself. Ding-Ding, Cole stands up and says he has another email that says, tonight’s main event Sheamus will defend the WWE Title against John Cena. Sheamus looks about to plotz! VKM starts announcing the match but, Ding-Ding. Cole says to ensure no one interferes there’s been a Special Guest Ref announced, someone who brings fear and respect. That will be Mr. McMahon. VKM smiles at this. Cena backs up the ramp smiling. Sheamus still looks a bit lost.

Slam Of The Week – Jericho versus Evan Bourne last Monday. Jericho didn’t get the three off the code breaker and snapped. The ref called for a DQ on Jericho. Evan hit the SSP after to take Jericho out.

Evan Bourne out to the ring and the fans are thrilled to see him. Evan is virtually glowing as King and Cole state that Evan and Jericho had the match of the night at the Fatal 4 Way PPV. Jericho stomps out to the ring looking really pissed. Jericho, from the apron, said he requested this rematch to make a statement, not just to you fly-by-night wannabe, but to everyone of these parasites witching now. If he doesn’t win this match tonight, he’s walking out of this arena and out of the WWE forever.

Knee and then forearm to Evan. Evan into a corner and stomped down. Evan grabs Jericho into a backslide for two, then another pin for two. Jericho ducks out rather than being kicked in the head. Jericho’s pacing outside the ring.

-Commercial

Head/armlock on Evan in the center of the ring. During the break Evan flew out onto Jericho, but Jericho sent him into the barrier. Evan to his feet and elbows out. Evan runs the ropes and rolls Jericho up for two. Jericho low dropkicks Evan’s hip, then baseball slides him from the ring. Evan outside and the ref starts to count. Jericho paces inside the ring, yelling smack. Evan back in at nine, but Jericho down on Evan with punches. Jericho gets Evan up for a suplex but Evan wiggles around and Jericho falls back with Evan on top, Evan pins for two. Knees and kicks to Evan, but Evan fights back sitting Jericho down in a corner. Low dropkick to Jericho and Evan pins for two. Jericho manages to lock on the wall and counters out. Evan somehow hit’s a DDT on Jericho for two. Front facelock on Jericho who kicks out. Jericho lands a backbreaker for two then kicks Evan in the side. Another backbreaker to Evan and Jericho stretches the boy over his knee. Jericho yells at the ref to, “ask him!” Evan says no and kicks his way free. Evan rushes Jericho in a corner but eats a back elbow. Jericho sits up top, but somehow Evan jumps up and nails head scissors (amazing) on Jericho for two. Evan up and ride Jericho down, knees on Jericho’s shoulders. Jericho reverses it into the walls and locks it on tight. Evan almost makes it to the ropes, but Jericho pulls him back. Evan finally makes it to the ropes and Jericho’s extremely frustrated. Evan, on the apron, kicks Jericho in the back of the head. Evan up, flies, SSP, but Jericho’s knees are up. Code breaker and Jericho pins for three.

– Winner: Jericho

Video of the SSP and then the finisher by Jericho. Jericho looks down at Evan laying on the mat. Jericho walks over and says something to the ref. Jericho grabs Evan’s hand, pulls him to his knees, talks to him there and all the way to his feet. Then Jericho pushes Evan back to the mat. Jericho stomps out of the ring and up the ramp, backward, making his heel face at Evan laying in the mat.

Video of Cena, Sheamus and VKM in the ring earlier. Cole read that the new GM wants Sheamus to defend his newly won title against Cena. Cole then says that the Special Guest Ref will be VKM.

Backstage VKM’s on the phone talking to the new GM and that VKM liked the decisions. VKM says he gave complete and ultimate authority. Surprises are cool, but not surprises for VKM, not for VKM!

Virgil sitting looking pensive. Ted came in and says they’ve know each other for a long time. Virgil said since he was a little kid. Ted says he embarrassed Virgil in the ring and he’s sorry for that. But he’s letting Virgil go. He’s upgraded. Maryse comes in and clamps on Ted’s arm. She appreciates the power of money. Virgil says Ted needs him, what will he do for protection? Ted says go to the drug store. Ted sternly tells Virgil, right in his face, that he’s fired. Virgil walks out, Maryse cuddles in closer.

Josh is backstage with the Hart Dynasty and Natalya. Big pop for them. Josh asks what they think about VKM relieving Bret. Natalya says they should have seen Uncle Bret being railroaded out of the WWE, yet again. Rookies shouldn’t be rewarded with contracts, they should go to jail. Kidd says that the last time Bret left, people could say both sides were at fault. This time Bret did nothing wrong. Natalya says, as his family, they have to make a personal vow to never let it happen again. Smith says they have to carry on the Hart family name and not let him down. Natalya says she’s dedicating her debut match on RAW tonight, and she’s dedicating it to Bret. These Hart won’t stop beating!

Limo pulls up out back, but the door doesn’t open.

– Commercial

The Hart Dynasty out to the ring, Natalya leading the way. Video of Bret’s abduction last week, then the limo crashing all over. Tamina and the Usos out to the ring. Tamina kicks, then punches Natalya. Natalya into a corner with more abuse. Headbutt to Natalya. Natalya whips Tamina and then clotheslines her. Natalya scoop slams Tamina, but then Jimmy and Jey looked like they might grab Natalya, distracts her and Tamina attacks from behind. Natalya grabs her and tries to ready her for a sharpshooter, but then the NXT boys stomp out to ringside. Kidd and Smith into the ring, the Usos pull Tamina out. I think Natalya makes her escape while then rookies are on the opposite side of the ring. Wade says he knows they’re angry, but they came out to apologize. Kidd flies out over the top, Smith slid out and they beat the crap out of Smith and Kidd. Smith sent into stairs, Kidd into the barrier. Darren Young into the ring. Wade Barrett also climbed in.

– Commercial

All of the NXT rookies are in the ring. Otunga says that on behalf of the group, he apologizes for their actions of the past couple weeks. They did it all for the love of the WWE. They did it all for their contract. Now that they have them, things can resort to normal. Slater takes the mic and says they’re trying to say they’re sorry. They have no problem with the WWE locker room or the WWE Universe. The last few weeks have been nothing personal. And there’s a few individuals they want to single out and says we’re sorry to. Gabriel takes the mic and says they first want to apologize to Bret Hart. Bret painted them into a corner, wouldn’t sign them, then fire the only connection they had to the WWE, Wade Barrett. Whatever they did, they’re sorry and hope he’s doing better now. Secondly, they want to say they’re sorry to Tyson Kidd, David Hart Smith, they know they’re angry, but they had to defend themselves tonight. They hope they can co-exist peacefully. Darren Young takes the mic and says they’d also like to personally apologize to John Cena, it’s nothing person. He remembers being on NXT, people called him the black Cena. To be honest, they needed to make a statement and how better than attack the top guy in the WWE? Guys, he represents them all, Cena will get his title back. Skip says they all want to apologize to the WWE Universe. On NXT they supported him. They all said ‘yup yup yup’ and ‘what it do’ with him. How about they do it again? Skip says the words but only gets heat back. He says for the youngsters they scared and the parents watching, they hope, truly, truly, truly hope they can find it in their hearts to forgive and forget. Tarver steps up and takes the mic, huge heat before he even speaks. He says from a single parent’s perspective, he used to be homeless, he knows all about the struggles of life. Before he says anything else, he has to apologize to his children, Kayla, Todd, Dominique, Christian, and Anthony. For everything they saw him do on TV, he’s sorry. He raised them better than that. That’s why when they go after their lives dream, they have to do everything they can, legally, to grab it. We all know in the bottom of their hearts, if they were given the choice they had, they’d have done what they done. Wade takes the mic and says these gentlemen behind him did what they had to do. What about him? He had a job, a PPV title shot. Why did he align himself with these desperate men? Loyalty. They decided from the start that they were going to have fun in NXT, but in the end they’d all have contracts, because that’s what loyalty was all about. They weren’t going to let WWE management dictate their careers. Huge “you suck” chants. NXT finished about a month ago, but these men here, individuals with no common link joined a nexus, a bond that can never be broken. He’s pleased to report that his contract’s been reinstated, but his PPV match has been too. That leads quite nicely to Sheamus. However you want to spin it, the reason he’s Champion is because of them. They made a target out of Cena and he was lucky to capitalize. Think about it, if they made a target out of Cena, they can just as easily make a target out of him. He has a PPV title match, at any time he can take Sheamus’ title off him. Whether it’s Cena tonight or Wade in the future. Mark his words, he will be WWE Champion. No matter who he has to beat, he will be making no apologies.

John Morrison out to the ring with Eli Cottonwood in tow. Out comes Ted DiBiase, Maryse on his arm in a white mini and a shirt black tank. Ted says he knows they had a match, but as you can see he has better things to do. He found a suitable replacement. Out comes Zack Ryder and Titus O’Neil. The rookies stay outside the ring.

They lock up, Zack backed into a corner but slaps Morrison in the chest when he gave a clean break. Zack stomps and kicks Morrison across the ring. Morrison fights back with a dropkick and then punches in a corner. Zack face first into a corner. Morrison tries for a slingshot, but Zack kicks his legs out from under him. Zack punches and kicks on Morrison then chokes him in the corner. Zack slams Morrison up into the second rope, chest first for two. Zack hit’s a snap mare then dropkicks Morrison’s back for two. Chinlock on Morrison in the center of the ring. Eli paces outside the ring. Morrison free and reverses Zack’s move but then runs into a clothesline. Zack drops a knee for two. Another chinlock on Morrison on the mat. Morrison up and elbows, then hit’s a jawbreaker. Morrison kicks Zack in the head and both are down. Morrison covers Zack, barely, for two. Both up exchanging blows. A dropkick to Zack’s face for two. Zack rolls away from a kick, to the apron, then hangs Morrison up on the ropes. Zack at Morrison who reverses it into a power bomb. Morrison up, hits starship pain for three.

– Winner: John Morrison

Titus O’Neil pulls Zack from the ring. Video of the high points and ending of the match. Morrison and Cottonwood talking in the ring. Eli starts to climb a corner and celebrate, Morrison grabs the back of his pants and pulls him off to stop him.

Backstage Josh stops Cena to ask about NXT’s apology. Cena says nothing personal? He was taken out on a stretcher. They put his career, his life, this program in jeopardy, but it was nothing personal? They stand out there and talk about loyalty to themselves, but did it for themselves. Cena wears loyalty on his sleeve. He’s loyal to the WWE, to the WWE Universe. It’s nothing personal? Apology not accepted. VKM steps in and says no excuses. Cena has no excuses, Sheamus has no excuses and it’s his job to make sure the right man wins. Good luck to you. Cena looks VKM up and down a bit before walking off.

Khali out with Eve for a Mixed Tag Team Match. Eve’s in blue and gold and all smiles. Alicia Fox and Primo out. Fox in gold and black animal print, holding the Divas Championship high as she heads for the ring.

Primo in to start with Khali, but then quickly tagged out. Fox wasn’t thrilled. Eve in to face her. Bitch slap to Eve, then a push to Eve. Knee to Fox’s gut then a side headlock takeover on Fox. To their feet, headlock still on and Eve hits another takeover. Fox brings to the ropes and wants the ref to back Eve up, but Fox goes for a dirty kick. Eve grabs her foot and comes back with a clothesline to Fox for two. Forearms to Fox’s face. Dropkick to Fox’s jaw, but Fox pulls Eve down to the bottom rope throat first. Fox rolls Eve up for two. Eve slammed face first to the mat by her hair. Fox stomps Eve, then pulls her up by the hair. Eve tries to fight back but Fox hit’s a beautiful jumping high knee to Eve’s face for two. Eve slammed into a corner, but double kick to Fox’s chest then an enziguri on Fox. Eve climbed and hit a moomsault on Fox. Eve pins but Primo in to break it up. Fox rolls out, Primo grabs Eve’s wrist and demands to know what she’s doing. Eve bitch slaps Primo and tags in Khali. Primo begs for mercy on his knees, then comes at Khali. Fox is leaving up the ramp. Chop to Primo, then another in a corner. A Punjabi plunge and Khali pins for three.

-Winners: Eve & Khali

They celebrate in the ring. They dance, then he picks her up in his arms.

Backstage Randy Orton’s heading for the ring.

– Commercial

Randy Orton comes out, in ring gear and an Orton t-shirt, to huge pop. He stops on the ramp, looks around, then heads into the ring. Cole says this time was requested by Orton. He says NXT want to interfere in his match? Fine, now that each and everyone of them is under contract, it’s only time before he punts each and every one of them in the skull. As for Wade Barrett, he accepts his apology and hopes he becomes WWE Champion. Because if he does… “I love you Randy!” yells a woman in the crowd, but Orton’s doesn’t flinch. …He is staring into the eyes of the man who’s going to take it from him. Awesome, comes the music and Miz. Miz on the stage in an untucked short sleeved blue dress shirt, blue jeans, a very dapper (gray?) suit vest and dark (gray or black) tie. Really? Miz asks. Him in another WWE Championship match? Really Randy? How does he put this in words he can describe. Orton hears voices in his head? So does he and they’re saying he’s sick of seeing Orton in the main event. Sick of seeing him hit his RKO on unsuspecting victims week after week. Sick of seeing the Viper, period. Orton’s made some tremendous accomplishments, but there’s one thing he’s never done, one thing no one’s ever done – hold the US Championship and the WWE Championship at the same time. Randy’s had his chances over and over. It’s time for him to go to the back of the line. The next WWE Championship match isn’t Randy’s it’s his. Why? It’s a little industry secret not many know about. But if he tells Randy, he has to keep it quiet. It’s because he’s the Miz and he’s – Miz kicks Orton in the gut. Punches to Orton’s head, but Orton ducks the big punches and nails a scoop slam on Miz. Orton’s ready, but Miz rolls out of the ring before the RKO. Orton follows Miz in the ring as he circles. But then Edge spears Orton. Edge gets down in Orton’s face and says, on mic, the real fun begins. Edge rolls from the ring. Video of Miz’s attack on Orton followed by Edge’s spear. Orton’s staring up the ramp at Edge who stares back.

Vince McMahon out to the ring in a zebra shirt and all smiles. Cena out to the ring next in his usual fashion. Sheamus out to face him. Justin announces the match once they’re both in the ring. The regular ref is still in the ring too. VKM is actually outside as more of an enforcer, Jack Doane is in the ring. Off comes Cena’s shirt and the women scream.

The bell and they dance around a bit. Arms around Sheamus form behind. Sheamus into the ropes. Clean break. Kick then punches to Cena. Cena backed into a corner and beaten down until Doane forces Sheamus to back up. Sheamus slams Cena, drops an elbow and pins for two. More punches to Cena who over sells them. Cena whipped. “Cena sucks” chants. Sheamus pins for two. Reverse headlock into a backbreaker. “Let’s go Cena!” chants from the women and children and “Cena suck!” from the men – exactly as we heard last night at the Fatal 4 Way PPV main event when Cena was in the ring. Sheamus stomps Cena’s hand, pulls him up and sends him out through the ropes.

– Commercial

Cena punching back. Cena rushes Sheamus in a corner, but gets the ring post to the shoulder when Sheamus moves out of the way. VKM stands outside watching. “Cena” chants from women and children. Sheamus kicks Cena in a corner then nails him with a clothesline in the center of the ring. Sheamus pins for two and was mad he didn’t get the three. Sheamus sweating, a lot. Cena on the apron. Sheamus pulls him up, bends him back and nails a forearm to his chest. Chinlock on Cena over the top rope. Another forearm to Cena’s chest as his arms are locked in the top rope. Cena crumbles. King talks about how horrible that blow is and that it can break your sternum. More of the very loud dueling chants for Cena. Sheamus tries to lock Cena’s arms again, but Cena fights it. Cena head butts backward to Sheamus’ face. Punch drops Sheamus and Cena kicks him away. Sheamus sent running the ropes and they both clothesline. Both down. Sheamus up for the AA but Sheamus counters and slams Cena for two. Sheamus again tries for the pin, but only gets two. Sheamus lines Cena up for the big boot, Cena ducks and comes back with two shoulder blocks and a slam that Cole called ‘vintage John Cena.’ Cena sets up for the five knuckle shuffle and he hits it. Sheamus up again for the AA, but Sheamus free and nails his ‘Irish Curse’ backbreaker. Sheamus pins but only gets two. Sheamus set up for his finisher, Cena reverses, hit’s a drop toe hold into the STF. Sheamus won’t tap and gets to the rope. Cena breaks on four and looks pissed. Sheamus rolls out of the ring and falls like a lump to the floor. Sheamus was playing a bit of possum and sent Cena shoulder first into the stairs. “Cena” chants from women and children. Sheamus pulls Cena up and rolls him into the ring on five. Sheamus pins but only gets two and Sheamus looks completely shocked. Sheamus rolled out, grabbed the lower section of the stairs and set them up in a specific way at the bottom of the ramp, past the pads around the ring. Sheamus pulled Cena from the ring and sent him shoulder (King said head, but Cena’s head isn’t above his elbow) first into the stairs. Sheamus rolls Cena into the ring and waits for Cena to get to his feet. Big boot to Cena and he flops, but the NXT boys are running to the ring. King and Cole are not thrilled. Sheamus fled and the NXT boys stopped at the barrier. Skip yell to move the chairs. Slater slammed the announce chairs around a lot more than he needed to in order to move them. Darren grabs Cena and sends him over announce. Skip flips the table on him, after Cena moves to the ring spot to not get crushed. VKM stands with the NXT boys as the look at the table. Darren says Cena’s done. VKM into the ring and tells them to stop it, no more of that. Is Cena still breathing on the other side of that thing? VKM called them into the ring and told the fans to take a look at these extraordinary athletes. He can’t take full responsibility for them, but can take partial responsibility for all their actions against King, Cole, Hart, Cena, the list goes on and on, almost got Sheamus. Let’s hear it for Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Interesting this week, no doubt about that. But next week the GM will reveal something… VKM stopped talking and realized the NXT boys were surrounding him and glaring at him. He took a big swallow, then laughed and said they almost had him there for a second. He saw his life Flash before him. Especially you Wade, you’re a (something I missed). “Daniel Bryan” chants started up. Then NXT boys move to surround VKM a little more and he looks nervous. They’re not happy and he realizes he’s in a pickle. VKM tries to talk them down off mic, but they jump him. They beat down VKM, then stomp the heck out him. VKM almost makes it out of the ring, but they pull him back. Two of them throw him into Skip’s clothesline. I hear, “pick him up.” Wade gets VKM on his shoulders and slams him down – Vince looks like a rag doll landing! Gabriel up, stares down and flies onto VKM. He hit as gently as possible, but VKM still took another hard hit. NXT boys leave the ring, VKM laying prone on the mat and very old. Someone in the ring screaming to get somebody out there. He’s trying to see if Vince can hear him, then calls again for people to get out there.

Biggest pop –
Randy Orton
Evan Bourne
Daniel Bryan
Eve & Khali

Biggest heat –
NXT Rookies
Jericho
Miz

Most mixed –
Cena

Toughest SOB in WWE –
Vincent Kennedy McMahon

I know I don’t normally write anything here, but I cannot believe the bumps VKM took in the ring. He might be one heck of a physical specimen, but he’s still almost 65 years old – August 24th! There’s only so much a man of that age can take! Rick Flair’s four years younger and doesn’t take bumps like that these days. He must really trust those ‘rookies’ to basically put his life in their hands. I’m completely blown away at what Vince McMahon will do for his company. He goes above and beyond what most business owners will do just by stepping foot in the ring, but to still take serious bumps, scripting them ahead of time, knowing he’s going to take that abuse really shows his grapefruits, but was it really the smartest thing to do? Are the ratings worth getting that type of beating at his age? Only he can answer that.
