Nearly three years after the Supreme Court of India awarded the disputed Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land to the Hindu side and offered the Muslim side an alternate location to build a new mosque, the construction of it is yet to start.
According to Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation, the Ayodhya Development Authority is yet to approve the trust’s proposal.

Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation, the 15-member trust tasked by the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board with the mosque’s construction, said they expect the approvals to happen soon.
“We have submitted a detailed map of the proposed complex to Ayodhya Development Authority. Its clearance was earlier delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They have now informed us that all the hurdles in the clearance of the map are being ironed out,” Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation Secretary Athar Hussain told PTI.
The trust had earlier said it was expecting clearance from the development authority by November-end to begin construction.

Following the SC order in 2019, the Muslim side was given a five-acre pot in Dhannipur village near Ayodhya to construct the mosque.
According to a PTI report, the plot, located among narrow roads lined with houses, a veterinary hospital and a new farmers’ centre, has been marked out by a 10-foot-high barbed wire fence running along the perimeter.
Until recently, the land was used for farming.
“Construction will progress as soon as the map is cleared. Till we get the clearance, it will be too early to tell anything about the timeline,” Hussain said.

According to the original plan, the Dhannipur Ayodhya Mosque was to be completed by December 2023. Apart from the mosque, the five-acre Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah Complex will also have a 200-bed hospital, a community kitchen, and a library with an archive of the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny.
The mosque was designed by Professor SM Akhtar, Head, Faculty of Architecture, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University in New Delhi.

In October, Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai had said that the Ram temple in Ayodhya will be opened for devotees after the installation of the idols of Ram Lalla in the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine on Makar Sankranti.
He also said 50 per cent of the construction work of the temple has been completed and the overall progress is satisfactory.
He said the temple’s ground floor will be ready by December next year, and around January 14, 2024, idols of Lord Ram will be installed.
