WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne recently spoke with The Mirror, and below are some interview highlights:

You defeated Tyler Bate at TakeOver: Chicago in May to win the WWE UK title, in a match many fans consider to be one of the best not just in NXT, but in the world, this year. Can you describe that night for us?

At the time I was so focused on getting the job done, it didn’t really settle in. It’s also hard… I hadn’t really worked many venues the size of that before [the 18,000 capacity Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois]. It’s a very different experience and it’s hard to tell how things are going at the time. It’s only after I came to the back and I was greeted by Triple H and a lot of the different producers that it started to settle in a bit. They rushed me off to do an interview with ESPN and they said ‘how does it feel to have just had the match of the year?’ In my mind I was like ‘really?’ I hadn’t realised what we had just done. It was only when we went away and watched it afterwards that it started to sink in. It’s hard in that moment to enjoy it. I’m mega conscious of it now, even things like today, Comic Con, or the UK tour coming up, being able to wrestle in my hometown, to really try and enjoy those moments.

If you were to pick dream opponents for the three of you as a trio, who would they be?

For the three of us, The Shield has got to be up there, but I guess D-Generation X is the one right? But for me in particular, I always have two answers for that. The first can’t happen unfortunately, it’s William Regal [the retired wrestler turned NXT general manager and trainer], and the other one is Brock Lesnar.

Reports suggest WWE is pitching to broadcasters including ITV and Sky for the long-mooted weekly WWE UK show. What do you make of the speculation and are you confident we will see WWE’s UK talent compete together on a regular basis soon?

I personally haven’t heard anything, but WWE haven’t exactly been quiet about the fact that their aim is to do a full time UK brand show. They have been quite open about that from the start. It’s still something I’m holding out for, that’s the ideal situation for me right now. A lot of people ask do I want to do NXT, or do I want to do main roster. I would love to be able to start something new and build a UK brand that we can all be proud of. I’m so proud of the tournament that we did and the tapings that we did in Norwich and the small part of NXT shows that we’ve had the chance to do stuff with. To be able to build something from the ground up, that would be really exciting to me. So fingers crossed. As of right now, I haven’t heard anything more that anyone else, but I’m still hopeful.
