CHICAGO RIDGE, IL — A man suffering from a gunshot wound turned up in Cicero after shots were exchanged between two vehicles in Chicago Ridge, police said. Sary Abushanab, 25, of Justice, and 22-year-old Mohammad Freihat, of Orland Park, were each charged with attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Around 10:15 p.m.,. Jan. 13, Chicago Ridge police officers responded to a call of occupants in two vehicles shooting at each other near 97th Street and Harlem Avenue. Both vehicles were gone by the time officers arrived. A short while later, Cicero police contacted Chicago Ridge police to say they had a vehicle in their town, with a man that was shot in the chest and three other occupants.
After determining that three people were connected to the shots-fired incident, the wounded man was transported to Loyola Hospital for treatment and later released.

A second person in the vehicle was taken to MacNeil Hospital for an injury unrelated to the shooting incident. The person was treated and released.
According to police, the trio had a conversation with Abushanab and Freihat, who were sitting in a Mercedes in a parking lot in the 10300 block of Harlem Avenue, when they noticed the pair were armed with handguns.
The three got into their vehicle and pulled out of the parking lot. Near 102nd Street and Harlem, when the Mercedes started following them. Police said Abushanab and Freihat began shooting at the other vehicle from the Mercedes. The driver of the other vehicle was struck by gunfire. Police said the driver and the front seat passenger, who both had valid concealed carry licenses, returned fire at the Mercedes, police said.
The trio identified Abushanab, the Mercedes driver, and his front seat passenger, Freihat, as the people who shot at them, police said. The Cook County State’s Attorney approved felony charges.
Abushanab and Freihat both appeared Friday at the Bridgeview Courthouse for a pretrial hearing, where both were ordered to be detained.
