Carly Hoover (pictured) went the distance for the Tigers (51-12), scattering six hits, striking out five and not walking a batter. Hoover’s effort improved her record to 18-5.
Offensively, LSU generated 10 hits, three off the bat of Emily Griggs (3-for-3), and two more from Constance Quinn (2-for-3, run). Bianka Bell and Kellsi Kloss homered for the Tigers.
Bell (1-3, 2 runs) left the yard in her first WCWS at bat to put LSU on the board with two outs in the first.
Another two-out rally by the LSU Tigers set the stage for a four-run third. A running shoestring snag and double up by Auburn (54-10) third baseman Casey Cooper put two outs on the board. However in a blink of an eye LSU was taking a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the third. A single off the bat of Bell, an RBI double by Jaquish and a Kellsi Kloss two-run long ball off the leftfield foul pole quickly turned a one-run lead into a five-run advantage for the Tigers.
Auburn got on the board in the bottom of the fifth courtesy of a Jenna Abbott sacrifice fly. That would be the only offense the Tigers generated as solid defense and clutch pitching by LSU limited the high-powered Auburn attack.
LSU tacked on an insurance run in the top of the sixth on a throwing error.
Marcy Harper (12-5) suffered the loss for Auburn, going just 2.2 innings. She surrendered five runs on six hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Junior Rachael Walters kept LSU’s offense at bay except for an unearned run in the sixth. In 4.1 innings of work, the southpaw allowed four hits, struck out three and didn’t walk a batter in her WCWS debut.

Morgan Estell was 2-for-3 with a run scored as Auburn finished the contest with six hits.
