HATBORO, PA —Hatboro Borough Council made some changes at its meeting Monday night, saying goodbye to a longtime member, and hello to a new member with a track record of community service. They also chose a new vice president.
Toward the end of its meeting Monday night, Borough Council accepted the resignation of Vice President Dave Stockton, who is leaving after six years on the board because he is moving out of town.
Stockton will be replaced by Todd A’Harrah, who has served on numerous boards and committees throughout the borough and lost a bid to unseat Councilwoman Amanda Jacobus in the November general election.
The board unanimously appointed A’Harrah, a Republican, to join the six Democrats on the council.
“We do what’s best for the people of the borough,” Council President George Bollendorf told Patch after the meeting regarding not choosing a candidate from the Democratic party.
A’Harrah was one of seven applicants. They included Borough Treasurer Tom Smith and Republican Gary Blickley.
“It’s really refreshing,” said Councilwoman Nicole McMenamin, in discussing the applicants at the meeting. “People were even recommending others for the council.”
A’Harrah moved to Hatboro in 1989 where he raised four children with his wife Kelly.
He has served as a church elder, an occasional photographer for the Enterprise Fire Company, and most recently as president of the Union Library Company of Hatboro.
“Todd’s selflessness and passion for all things Hatboro are truly unmatched and we are grateful to have him lead our community,” borough officials said.
With Stockton having resigned, the board needed a new vice president.
The council unanimously named Councilwoman Nicole Reichner to the post.
Reichner was first elected to the council in 2020. The lifelong resident dedicates her time on the council to downtown development, park improvements, and the operation of the Memorial Pool.
At the meeting’s start, Bollendorf praised Stockton, as both joined the council in 2018.
“He was the Ying to my Yang,” Bollendorf said of Stockton. “We started this journey seven years ago. There are many things you have done to make the borough a better place.”
During his tenure, Stockton served on the council’s Finance/Grants, Administration, and Community Outreach/Events committees where he was instrumental in the municipal budgeting process, modernizing and developing the borough’s current website, developing capital projects, and more.
His strong leadership and problem-solving skills were an incredible asset to Borough Council and will be greatly missed, officials said.
Stockton was presented with a plaque and there was also a cake in his honor.
He thanked Bollendorf, past and current council members, borough staff, Manager Diane Hegele, and then mayor and now State Rep. Nancy Guenst for being his inspiration to seek office.
“But most of all I want to thank the residents,” Stockton said. “You elected me. You entrusted me. I don’t take that lightly. This was a privilege. I will miss you all very dearly.”
