Nationally ranked Jackrabbits shoot for record

The nationally ranked South Dakota State University wrestling team will be in search of a school-record 12th consecutive dual victory Friday night when it hosts West Virginia on Senior Night.

Action begins at 7 p.m. at Frost Arena. Jackrabbit seniors Cody Pack, Ben Schwery and Brance Simms will be honored prior to the match, which will be available for viewing online through FloWrestle.org.

The Jackrabbits enter the week 12-5 overall and 4-1 against Big 12 Conference foes, while West Virginia is 6-8 overall and 0-2 in league duals. The Mountaineers ended a six-dual losing streak last week with an 18-12 victory over 17th-ranked Pittsburgh (Pa.).

SDSU’s current 11-dual winning streak matches a mark first set during the 1972-73 season and matched in the 1985-86 campaign. Both of the previous record streaks of 11 were established in opening a season.

Start time for Sunday’s dual is 2 p.m. at McCasland Field House, with the dual slated to be broadcast live on Fox Sports Southwest and Fox College Sports Central.

THE SERIES: Friday’s dual against West Virginia will mark the first meeting on the mat between the Jackrabbits and Mountaineers.

SDSU and Oklahoma have wrestled only one previous time, with the Sooners winning by a 31-2 count early in the 1969-70 season.
