WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The man who killed actor Morgan Freeman’s grand-stepdaughter E’Dena Hines in front of her Washington Heights home is facing decades in state prison, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., announced Thursday.
Lamar Davenport, 33, was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison Thursday for the August 2015 fatal stabbing of Hines outside of her apartment building on West 162nd Street, prosecutors said. Davenport and Hines had been dating for several years before the stabbing, prosecutors said.
“Ambitious and driven, E’Dena Hines was deeply loved by family and friends before her life was brought to a horrific and tragic end by her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport,” Vance said in a statement.
Davenport was under the influence of alcohol, PCP and other drugs when he kicked Hines to the ground in front of her West 162nd Street home and drew a knife from his belt, prosecutors said. He stabbed Hines 25 times in the back, arm and abdomen.
Witnesses to the brutal attack called police and Hines was rushed to Harlem Hospital where she was pronounced dead, prosecutors said. Davenport was arrested at the scene of the crime.
Davenport was convicted on first-degree manslaughter charges in May. He will face five years of post-release supervision after serving his 20 years in prison, prosecutors said.
