SHERMAN OAKS, CA — Actor Luke Perry has reportedly died just days after suffering a massive stroke at his Sherman Oaks home.
The actor died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, his representative confirmed.
Publicist Arnold Robinson, saying the 52-year-old actor died “surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, stepfather Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends.”
“The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning,” he said. “No further details will be released at this time.”
According to TMZ, which first reported the actor’s passing, doctors had tried to give Perry’s brain a chance to recover from the stroke, sedating him since he was hospitalized last Wednesday, but the damage was too extensive.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were called to Perry’s home at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday.
The 52-year-old actor was playing Fred Andrews on the show “Riverdale,” but he is best known for playing Dylan McKay in the 90s hit “Beverly Hills, 90210”

Perry suffered the stroke on the same day Fox announced a reboot of “90210,” starring most of the original cast. He had not signed on to reprise his role as McKay although co-stars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling had.
“Luke was a tremendous force in the lives of so many. He was a very sensitive soul who was kind, generous and he fought for the underdog,” said Carteris. “He was a strong voice and an advocate who will be so missed by all who knew him. He has left his mark — never to be forgotten. My heart goes out to his family, friends and fans around the globe.”
A native of Ohio, Perry moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. He settled in Orange County and Long Beach, working in construction until getting small parts in commercials, music videos and soap operas. Then he got his big break. The 90s teen drama “Beverly Hills 90210” catapulted the little-known actor into super stardom.
In his mid 20s, he became a teen idol almost overnight, enduring comparisons to the likes of James Dean for his performance as the moody but soulful Beverly Hills teen. “Beverly Hills 90210″wasn’t the only iconic 90s franchise Perry was part of. He also landed the role of the vampire boyfriend in the film Buffy The Vampire Slayer that would go on to launch the classic TV show of the same name.
Though he hadn’t signed onto the new 90210 reboot, Perry told reporters in 2017 he was open to the idea.
“I’m going to be linked with him until I die, but that’s actually just fine. I created Dylan McKay. He’s mine,” the actor reportedly said of his most famous role.
Since the height of his fame as the “90210” teen idol, Perry has starred in “The Fifth Element” and was set to appear in Quentin Tarantino’s Charles Manson movie, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
Though he would never regain the height of stardom he reached in the ’90s, Perry continued to work in television appearing in dozens of shows from parodying himself on the “The Simpsons” to playing a rapist on “Law & Order: SVU.” He also took on a number of dramatic roles in theater, appearing on Broadway in 2001.
As news broke of his death, fans and stars shared their grief.
“Riverdale” executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater released a joint statement saying Perry “was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.”
“My heart is broken,” tweeted actress Molly Ringwald. “I will miss you so much Luke Perry.”
