Ocasio, president of the Championship Entertainment Productions wrestling company, spoke with Patch about why bringing live wrestling to the North Fork means so much.

“You will see the faces of the children in the crowd having the time of their lives, munching on fresh popcorn with an ice-cold soda, ready to cheer and boo the wrestlers.”

In the theme of St. Patrick’s Day, the event will feature international wrestling star from Ireland Steve Savage, as well as Greenport’s own “vilified star” Dixon; “The Giant” — 6-feet, 7-inches tall and 350 lbs. — T.J. Marconi; and heavyweight champion, ” as seen on the NWA, ‘The Landmine,’ Ocasio.

“We are so excited to be hosting at the American Legion here in Greenport,” Ocasio said. “The layout is perfect for what we plan to bring, with its spacious ceilings and stage.”

Added Dixon: “For 40 long years, the Greenport American Legion has been absent the greatest form of entertainment in the entire world. Sunday, March 17, we bring it back. We will put on a show that’s gonna be right in your face. Action-packed. You won’t be able to turn away. Buckle up — we’re going for a St. Patrick’s Day ride!”

He added: “Professional wrestling is the most popular form of entertainment all across the world. It holds no barriers and can reach the hearts of men, women, and children of any origin. You get to sit down and watch an action movie before your very eyes and live through these larger than life performers. You will laugh, you will yell, you will have fun.”

On Sunday, Dixon said, “We bring the action to the Greenport American Legion, whose spacious ceilings will hear the echo of fans all night long.”

Marc LaMaina, owner of the Lucharitos eateries, added: “To say we are excited to bring pro wrestling back to Greenport and the beautifully renovated American Legion would be an understatement. It’s good family fun and having our three boys, it’s what we live for. Hats off to the veterans of the Greenport American Legion for trusting us with the space, Mindy Ryan for believing in the show — and our team of professional wrestlers who lay it all on the line to bring smiles and excitement to the crowd.”

He also shouted out special thanks to “the long list of donors who are part of the show and the local community!”

In 2019, LaMaina had a dream. He told Patch he missed the “good old days when we were kids and could watch our wrestling heroes compete live at the local American Legion.”

And so, he set out to transform a dream into reality and bring live professional wrestling back to the North Fork.

He was not the only ones who couldn’t wait for the action, LaMaina said. “My kids are excited to get to see the ring up close and meet the wrestlers after the show. It’s small town wrestling with some big time names.”

As far back as 2019, LaMaina said was enthused to discuss the possibility of working with Greenport’s American Legion Burton Potter Post 185 for future events.

“This is just the beginning of seeing wrestling back on the North Fork. And Lucharitos is proud to be a part of making it happen,” LaMaina said at the time.

Even the name of his business resonates, LaMaina told Patch: “Lucharitos translates into little fighter. My son Joey was in the hospital fighting a very high fever when he was a month old, same time we were thinking of a name for the bar,” he said. “So the little fighter was him.”
