MILFORD, CT — The long-time current home of Q-Gardens Patio and Garden Center is for sale, but the business has big plans and looks forward to a long future ahead, owner Bobby Macchia said.
The property, which is the current home to Q-Gardens Patio and Garden Center at 1546 Boston Post Road in Milford is on the market for $6.5 million, according to a listing on Crexi.com.
Macchia said the listing and initial story on Patch earlier in July caused some confusion, as some customers thought his company was going out of business. But that’s not the case.
He said while the property is listed for sale, he’s looking to continue the business in a smaller location “within the hometown Milford area.”
Macchia, who is a fourth-generation owner, said the business has been on site since 1928, and the company’s roots “were in the garden nursery business with a lot of our land used for live trees, shrubs, and other plant material which takes up a lot of space.”
He said the business began a transition in the 1970s under his father, who “introduced high-end casual patio furniture” and that “this has become the greatest strength of our store over those last 50 years or so.”
“We do still have a small portion of the store servicing lawn and garden items, but not nearly as much live nursery stock,” Macchia said. “Therefore, it makes sense for us to just move to a smaller location still within the hometown Milford area and will continue to be focusing on high quality patio furniture, grilling, and outdoor living decor.”

“We feel like we don’t need 5.47 acres to do this and the land is underutilized,” Macchia added. “The plan is to find a retail location 10,000-15,000 square foot in town that will allow us to do what we do best and to be more efficient in doing so. We are NOT leaving our customers throughout southern CT nor our local community.”
