HADDONFIELD, NJ — A private school in Haddonfield was placed in a lockout Thursday as police searched for a suspect accused of a nearby incident.
The person has been apprehended, police said Thursday afternoon. The lockout was a precaution, and no students or members of the public were in danger, according to law enforcement.
During lockouts, schools suspend all outdoor activities and lock their exterior doors. Classroom instruction proceeds as scheduled.
Haddonfield police were assisting PATCO authorities with locating a suspect accused of a “minor offense” at Haddonfield Station. Borough officers requested the lockout because he fled in the direction of Haddonfield Friends School.
The suspect was caught and turned over to PATCO police. Authorities did not publicly disclose his identity or the offense for which he was wanted.
Lockouts are considered less severe than shelter-in-place or lockdown procedures, which are implemented during greater security threats.
Haddonfield Friends School is a Quaker institution that serves grades PreK-8. It’s located on N Haddon Avenue, a few blocks away from Haddonfield Station.
