The leaders of Greece’s main political parties today reached a deal on austerity measures needed for the country’s €130 billion bail-out.

Eralier today, Greek authorities discussed the proposed measures – which are expected to include cuts to pensions and the minimum wage, and civil service job losses – with officials from the European Central Bank, European Commission and International Monetary Fund.

A statement released by the office of Lucas Papademos, Greece’s prime minister, said: “Discussions between the Greek government and the troika were successfully completed this morning.

“Political leaders have agreed with the result of those negotiations. Therefore there is a general agreement in the context of the new programme ahead of tonight’s Eurogroup meeting.”

That meeting, which takes place at 6pm in Brussels, will see all 17 eurozone finance ministers discuss the Greek deal before deciding whether bail-out loans can be disbursed.
