KENSINGTON, CT — Last year, New Canaan breezed to the Division I girls golf championship, outdistancing runner-up Greenwich by 28 strokes. The Cardinals entered the 2023 event determined to even the score, and not let history repeat itself.
That they did, posting a 337 team total at Timberlin Golf Club to edge the Rams by three shots and claim the program’s third overall state title, but first since 2016.
Sophomore Allison Bauer led the Greenwich effort with an 81, placing in a tie for third among individual competitors. Maddie Driscoll, the lone senior among the top five Cardinals, tied junior teammate Zarah Hillman at 85, while juniors Caroline McShea and Charlotte Langhorne posted an 86 and 87, respectively.
Morgan Peterson of Glastonbury blistered the 5,477-yard course by firing four birdies in a 2-under par round of 70, placing nine strokes ahead of individual runner-up Amanda Vigano of New Canaan.
