LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Forty-eight student-athletes from 24 different institutions garnered 2018 NFCA NJCAA Division I All-America honors, the Association announced on Wednesday morning.
College of Central Florida, national runner-up Chipola College and Florida SouthWestern State College led the way with four NFCA All-Americans. National champions Temple College, and Tyler Junior College each had three selections. Butler paced all squads with three first-team honoree, while Chipola and Salt Lake Community College picked up two first teamers.
2018 NJCAA I All-Americans
Jefferson College’s Taylor Barnes was named the New Balance Golden Shoe recipient, while Jaydee Boursaw of Yavapai College was selected the Diamond Sports/NFCA Catcher of the Year.
In all, there are 10 repeat All-Americans, including Boursaw, a two-time first-team selection. Additionally, first-time first-teamers Krystal Goodman and Alexis Grampp of Chipola, along with Butler’s Kenzie Young garner their second All-America honors as well.
Boursaw ranked third in NJCAA DI with 28 long balls, while leading her squad with a .444 average, 84 RBI and .994 slugging percentage, ranking sixth and ninth nationally in the latter two categories. Joining Boursaw as the other first-team catcher is Chelsea Peace from Seminole State College of Florida. Peace is a spot behind Boursaw with 25 home runs. She led the Raiders with a .440 average, 20 doubles, 73 RBI, .513 on-base percentage and .948 slugging percentage.
Goodman (26-2, 0.46 ERA, 227 K, 181.1 IP), Temple’s Dalilah Barrera (21-2), 1.27 ERA, 236 K, 149.1 IP) and College of Central Florida’s Lindsay Markham-Rosario (29-4, 0.98 ERA, 226 K, 199.1 IP) make up the first-team pitching honorees. Markham-Rosario topped NJCAA DI with those 29 victories and was second with 12 shutouts and sixth in ERA. Barrera’s punchouts ranked fourth nationally, while her 11.06 strikeouts per seven innings was third. Goodman’s microscopic ERA ranked second in NJCAA D1, while her 13 shutouts topped the charts and strikeouts were seventh.
Grampp (.447, 14 2B, 8 HR, 63 RBI, 61 R), along with Salt Lake’s Ashley Snyder (.519, 33 HR, 115 RBI, 81 R, 1.269 SLG), Clarendon’s Mariah Miramontez (.481, 11 HR, 72 RBI, 97 R, 66 SB), Bossier Parish’s Chelsea Fagan (.454, 38 HR, 86 RBI, 74 R, 1.195 SLG) and Butler’s Alexis Reed (.443, 12 2B, 19 HR, 67 RBI, 42 R) are the infield All-America selections. Fagan and Snyder finished one-two in home runs and slugging, while Snyder topped NJCAA DI in RBI and was third in batting average. Miramontez ranked third in stolen bases.
Young (.488, 8 2B, 7 3B, 14 HR, 60 RBI, 68 R, 1.000 SLG), Salt Lake’s Lauren Tycksen (.440, 80 H, 7 3B, 80 R, 50 SB), Indian Hills’ Taylor Jones (.414, 70 H, 63 R, 54 SB) and Florida SouthWestern’s Riley Russell (.418, 62 R, 68 SB) take home All-America plaudits in the outfield. Some of NJCAA DI’s top base stealers reside here as Russell, Jones and Tycksen rank second, seventh and ninth, respectively. Young ranks seventh overall in slugging.
Brianna Robinson is the third first-team selection from Butler. The designated player ranks fourth with 85 RBI and fifth with 24 home runs and a 1.048 slugging percentage, while hitting .479 with 70 hits, 11 doubles and 54 runs scored.
Rounding out the first team is utility All-American Tristen Evans from College of Southern Idaho. Evans ranked fifth with 24 long balls and 171 total bases, while her 1.030 slugging percentage was sixth nationally. She hit .494 with 13 doubles, 71 RBI and 60 runs scored.
