ELMHURST, IL – Dennis Reboletti, who is running for the Elmhurst-based state representative’s seat, has something most Republicans don’t – a teachers union endorsement.
The Illinois Federation of Teachers has endorsed Reboletti, an Elmhurst resident who is Addison Township’s supervisor, for District 45 state representative.
Of the 86 races in which the union made endorsements, Democrats received all but five of them. Reboletti served in the state House from 2007 to 2015.

The statewide federation is the second-largest teachers union in Illinois, behind the Illinois Education Association. The federation includes the teachers unions in Chicago and Elmhurst.
Reboletti’s opponent is Democrat Marti Deuter, an Elmhurst alderwoman.
Patch was unable to get a comment on the union’s endorsement from Deuter or Reboletti.
The current representative, Democrat Jenn Ladisch Douglass, decided against running for a second term. In the 2022 election, she defeated Republican Deanne Mazzochi, who was elected in 2018.
Ladisch Douglass’ campaign received money from teachers unions.
In 2022, Mazzochi joined local conservatives in denouncing what she saw as left-wing bias in lessons at Elmhurst’s York High School. She singled out a particular teacher in her criticism.
In a speech to the school board, Mazzochi urged the superintendent to “clean house.”
District 45 is considered a battleground. In recent elections, both political parties have poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into the district.
Besides Elmhurst, District 45 includes parts of Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills and Westmont, among other towns.
