AEW Full Gear is trending to have done better on pay-per-view than last month's WrestleDream.
Our own Dave Meltzer covered the early estimates for the show in today's edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Depending on late buys, it's tracking to do between 122,000 to 140,000 buys.
"Because of the holiday, our information is earlier in the week than usual so there are more variables in play," Meltzer noted. "The only stuff we have is that streaming looks to be about 15 percent or more above WrestleDream and could be more than 20 percent."
Cable and satellite PPV numbers are currently incomplete due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The early estimates do not include one major system that Meltzer writes "AEW usually doesn’t do well with."
"But based on the numbers we have as compared to the same number of days after the show, the numbers are up 33.3 percent from the same period for WrestleDream, but WrestleDream also didn’t do well on cable/sat. They are down 17.1 percent from Forbidden Door at the same period."
"Based on that you’re looking at 122,000 to 140,000 with how well the late buys do being the key factor."
While Full Gear has received an overall favorable reaction, Meltzer notes it was not the kind of "show of the year" buzz that has driven late pay-per-view buys for AEW previously. However, there was a lot of talk after the show regarding the Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Page, and MJF vs. Jay White matches that could possibly impact late buys.
AEW WrestleDream is estimated to have done 110,000 buys. Estimates from September had the All In buys tracking to do between 180,000 and 196,000 and All Out between 73,000 and 96,000.
