Butcher Changes Name From Ashok To Ahmad During Eid

Ashok Kumar, 52, is among the many cattle traders selling sacrificial goats at the Jama Masjid market ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. For the 10-odd days that Kumar spends at the market before the festival each year, he goes by the name of Ahmad Khan.

The changed identity not just helps him escape the taboo attached to selling animals for slaughter, it also ensures “steady sales”.

“Buyers want to purchase animals from their own community,” says Kumar (first name changed to protect identity), who lives in Rajasthan. Traders say at least 5% of the sellers there are, like Kumar, from the scheduled caste Khateek community.Click Here: Newcastle United Shop
