The annual Graduate Preview Day, hosted by the British Fashion Council,
brought together 28 fashion colleges from across the UK to celebrate the
work of their graduating students. This year’s event saw The Royal College
of Arts, the University of Salford and the University of Westminster being
crowned the winners by the judging panel, which included fashion designer
Betty Jackson and founder of Propercorn and ambassador for Warehouse’s
Women to Watch Cassandra Stavou.
The ‘Fashion Monitor Colleges Portfolio Award’ was awarded to The Royal
College of Arts, the University of Salford was given the ‘WGSN Digital
Portfilio Award’, and the University of Westminster won the ‘BFC Fashion
Illustration Award’, with all the awards being presented by Simon Ward,
Chief Operating Office of the BFC. “One of the main aims of the BFC’s
education pillar is to support and nurture emerging talents, giving them
valuable opportunities to connect with industry experts as well as allowing
the members of the industry to identify the upcoming talent,” commented
Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council.
“This is why I am delighted Graduate Preview Day was such a success, with
an extremely high calibre of portfolios from our universities showing the
breadth of new talent entering the industry.” Currently in its 21st year,
the Graduate Preview Day aims to spotlight emerging, young British design
students and connect them with established retailers and labels, with
representatives from Asos, Burberry, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, River Island,
and Topshop attending the event.
