BAFTA Film Awards 2019 Winners Announced

The Film Awards winners of the 2019 British Academy of Film and Television Awards have been announced, with The Favourite coming out on top with seven wins.

The Favourite, a British period drama set in the early 18th century, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, won Outstanding British Film, Original Screenplay, Costume Design, Production Design and Make Up & Hair. Colman received the BAFTA for Leading Actress while Rachel Weisz took home best Supporting Actress.

Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma notably won four BAFTA awards: Best Film, Director, Cinematography and Film Not in the English Language.

Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer: Michael Pearce and Lauren Dark, Beast

Animated Film: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Adapted Screenplay: BlacKkKlansman

British Short Animation: Roughhouse

British Short Film: 73 Cows

Cinematography: Roma

Documentary: Free Solo

Editing: Vice

Film Not in the English Language: Roma

Original Screenplay: The Favourite

Production Design: The Favourite

Sound: Bohemian Rhapsody

Special Visual Effects: Black Panther

EE Rising Star Award: Letitia Wright, Black Panther/Infinity War (public vote)

The Special Award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema was given to Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley, who have worked on films like The Crying Game, Company of Wolves, Little Voice, Scandal, Carol and Colette. The Fellowship honor was presented to editor Thelma Schoonmaker.
