Rousey started training back then in anticipation of a Four Horsewomen vs. Four Horsewomen storyline that was actually shot at the Mae Young Classic tournament but the company aborted those creative plans.

— Rousey’s merchandise is already being sold at live events – another indication that a deal was in place well before she appeared. It’s possible that because WWE is promoting her “contract signing” for Elimination Chamber to help ticket sales, it is the reason they can’t come out and outright say she’s already put pen to paper.
