ASU’s Stankiewicz, Tulsa’s Watson garner 2018 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I weekly honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Arizona State’s Marisa Stankiewicz and Tulsa’s Emily Watson were named Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division I National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played March 26-April 1.

Stankiewicz powered the seventh-ranked Sun Devils to four more wins in non-conference action last weekend. The senior infielder hit .625 with five hits, three leaving the yard, seven RBI and eight runs scored. She slugged 2.000, was issued four free passes and hit once, contributing to an .769 on-base percentage.

Stankiewicz homered twice drove in three and scored three times in a 10-3 victory over BYU. In the game prior against North Dakota State, she was 2-for-2 with a grand slam and four RBI. The Pac-12 Player of the Week also doubled and scored three times in her first matchup with the Bison.

Watson, a senior from Edmond, Okla., played a pivotal role in Tulsa’s American Athletic Conference sweep of East Carolina. The right-handed hurler went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a save over the weekend. Holding the Pirates to a .157 batting average, she posted two shutouts with 23 strikeouts and two walks over 15 innings of work.

She twirled a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in a five-inning victory that secured the sweep. Watson opened the series with a three-hit shutout in which she fanned 11 and walked one. The American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week picked up a three inning save with four punchouts in game two.
