Amy Hennig’s Canceled Star Wars Game Was Meant to Evoke ‘Ensemble’ Feel of Films – IGN Unfiltered

Electronic Arts’ history with Star Wars games has been tumultuous to say the least. There may be no better example than the Star Wars game that was being developed by Visceral, the studio behind Dead Space, and famed video game writer Amy Hennig, known for her work on the Uncharted series. On this month’s episode of IGN Unfiltered, host Ryan McCaffrey sat down with Amy Hennig to discuss her vision for the unfinished Star Wars game, what she’s been doing on her “year off,” and more.

Most notably, Hennig compared her vision for the game, codenamed “Ragtag,” to the serialized adventures of Indiana Jones that inspired Nathan Drake’s adventures in Uncharted, but with one key difference.

“You look at Indiana Jones, he’s the protagonist,” Hennig said. “The other characters are side characters. They’re important, but they’re not co-protagonists. In Star Wars, those are ensemble stories, all of them. If you didn’t do that in a Star Wars game that was meant to feel like a Star Wars movie, something would feel off and you wouldn’t know what it was.”

You can hear Hennig explain her vision further by watching the video at the top of this page, or checking out the full Unfiltered episode on Tuesday, which also features an interview with Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price on the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man.
