SAMI CALLIHAN (w/ OVE) vs. FENIX

Fenix started out at an insane pace, flying through the ropes into a tilt-a-whirl DDT, popping back up into a shotgun dropkick and firing off with wicked chops. He did some beautiful rope work, kicking Dave Crist off the apron at the same time as he did a corkscrew splash into Callihan, threw him to the outside and dove over the ropes to take all three OVE members out in one huge move.

Fenix rolled his opponent back into the ring and set in with more chops and strikes, but Jake Crist caught his boot from the floor; the distraction allowing Callihan to hit a nasty Half Nelson Suplex nearly dropping the high-flyer on his neck. The two brawled to the floor and Sami ate his own spit, just to prove he’s disgusting, before chopping the hell out of Fenix’s chest against the barricades. OVE continued to get involved, choking out Fenix and taking all kinds of cheap shots any time the referee was distracted or his back was turned.

Sami slowed things down with a back mount, driving elbows into the back of Fenix’s head between applying a side sleeper hold. The crowd chanted “Ohio Sucks”, which is just objectively true, but the mockery just made Callihan beat his opponent harder, to the point where the ref nearly stopped the fight. Back to the sleeper hold he went. Eventually the crowd willed Fenix back into the back and he connected with a series of rolling elbows and a dropkick in the corner. He went to the top rope looking to put things away, but Callihan had it scouted and shoved him hard onto the entrance ramp.

The two fought out on the ramp with Callihan looking for a deadly powerbomb, but Fenix countered out with a hurricanrana and came off the ropes with a handspring cutter on the metal ramp. Sami rolled back into the ring trying to take a breather, but his opponent wouldn’t let up, flying over the ropes into another amazing springboard cutter.

After our first commercial break out of the night – yes, the FIRST break – the two were back to the basics, standing face-to-face in the ring and teeing off with back and forth strikes and kicks. Callihan hit a nasty rolling elbow and a powerbomb that reminds me very much of Chris Jericho in WCW, rolling right into a heel hook submission. He couldn’t get the tap-out there, so Sami transitioned into a crossface, hooking the arm, but somehow Fenix willed himself to the bottom rope to save himself.

A pissed off Sami started unravelling his wrist tape, but he took a bit too much time and allowed Fenix to recover. He gave a signal for the “thumbs up, thumbs down”, setting up for a powerbomb off the top rope, but the high-flyer countered out into a huge springboard hurricanrana sending them both crashing down. They got to their feet and started traded kicks for elbow strikes, back and forth, one more time. Fenix was sent into the ropes but rebounded with a 619 into a superkick. He went to the top rope but Callihan got in the referee’s face as the Crist brothers swarmed their opponent. Pentagon Jr. ran down the ramp and cleared the apron, brawling with OVE as Fenix caught an unsuspecting Sami with a spinning Muscle Buster to score a massive victory. This match was AWESOME!

Winner: Fenix
