In a new report from Fightful, former IMPACT star Eli Drake’s recent firing had to due with comments he made on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast when he called IMPACT out for “booking him into oblivion.” Drake also refused to wrestle an intergender matchup with Tessa Blanchard at United We Stand, which at first was suspected as an angle, but ended up being legitimate. The situation grew worse when Drake mentioned in a tweet that Killer Kross would decimate fellow Knockout Jordynne Grace if they ever actually squared off in the ring. IMPACT higher-ups, specifically Scott D’Amore, were not happy with Drake’s handling of the match announcement, adding to further heat he had already garnered since the new regime took over.
Reports state that IMPACT is attempting to lock Drake into a one-year non-compete clause. Drake himself said that he wasn’t planning on re-signing once his contract concluded in May.
