SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana moved up one spot as a team and TJ North and Sean Derry both climbed a spot in their weight class in the latest Basford Division II National Wrestling rankings released on Thursday. Jayd Docken joins North and Derry in the individual national rankings.
After moving into the poll at No. 14 two weeks ago, the Vikings moved into the No. 13 ranking after posting a 3-2 record over the past two weeks. The Vikings who own an 8-4 record, 6-2 record against Division II competition, took down then-No. 10 Indianapolis 38-9 at the Ranger Duals on Jan. 18.
North is the highest ranked wrestler, checking in at No. 4 in the 125-pound class, moving up one spot after he defeated top-ranked Alex Johns of Indianapolis. North owns a 20-3 record this year, 10-0 against Division II competition, and is the top-ranked 125-pounder in Super Region 3.
Derry slides into the No. 7 slot at 184 pounds, moving up one spot since the rankings were released two weeks ago. Derry is tied with North in most victories for the Vikings with 20 and has suffered just one Division II loss this season. Derry also moved to No. 2 in the Super Region 3 rankings.
Docken dropped one spot to No. 6 after losing his first dual of the year to fifth-ranked Julian Smith of McKendree at the Ranger Duals. Docken’s 8-1 mark is the best winning percentage for a Vikings so far this season. Docken holds onto his No. 3 rankings at 197 pounds.
Joining the Vikings in the super region rankings is Shawn Hatlestad who checks in at No. 7 in the 149-pound calss.
Augustana concludes a five-dual road swing visiting Augsburg, ranked fourth in Division III, on Jan. 24 and face Minnesota State on Jan. 25 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual.
