Fortnite’s Controversial Glider Redeploy Is Back

The glider redeploy, one of the most controversial gameplay mechanics in the history of Fortnite, is making its return as a usable item.

Announced by Epic Games, the glider redeploy will be returning with patch v7.20 and will take up an inventory slot if you choose to equip it. It can be found from normal loot sources, including floor loot, chests, vending machines and supply llamas.

Players can activate glider redeploy as they normally would (in the past, it would deploy if a player fell from a height of three stories or more and allow them to land safely), and each deployment of the device will remove a single charge. Once all charges are used, the item will disappear.

Using launch pads, rifts-to-go and LTM respawns will not consume a charge, as they put the player in skydiving mode. In Soaring 50s and other large team modes, you will be granted a glider item with 50 charges.

When the glider redeploy was initially tested, reactions were highly divisive. Upon its initial introduction, it allowed players to traverse quickly and escape from tall build fights easily. This ultimately removed a sizable skill-gap within the game. This time around, Epic’s goal with the redeploy is to “provide mobility and utility, but in a form that can be balanced and iterated upon.” Epic will use player feedback to further tune the item in the future.
