LOS ANGELES, CA — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the world’s most famous newlyweds are expecting their first child.
The baby is due this spring, according to an announcement by Kensington Palace. The announcement comes just five months after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex married in a ceremony that captivated the world.
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” the simple Twitter announcement read.

Markle, a Hollywood native, has been the subject of intense speculation of late after she appeared at high profile events in outfits that obscured her waist. On Friday, speculation ran rampant when she showed up to the wedding of Princess Eugenie wearing a long button-down coat and again in Sydney Australia, when she disembarked from a plane obscuring her waistline from cameras by carrying binders.
The 34-year-old prince and his 37-year-old wife had been open about wanting a child soon after their marriage.
“Hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future,” he told BBC News shortly before his wedding.
The child would be seventh in line to the British throne, according to the New York Times.
The couple has not said how far along the princess is nor whether they know the baby’s gender yet.
The couple’s romance has captivated the world especially since the unorthodox prince snubbed tradition by picking a divorced American actress to wed. Markle, who starred in the show “Suits,” is biracial and feminist, and has been hailed by her fans for making the monarchy seem more approachable.
