The upcoming Star Trek series centered on Captain Jean-Luc Picard has just recruited two new cast members: Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd.
Confirmed on the official CBS All-Access Twitter account, Cabrera and Hurd have officially joined this currently untitled show alongside Sir Patrick Stewart.
Cabrera is known for his roles as Darius Tanz in Salvation, Joseph Bachman in Big Little Lies and Lancelot in Merlin. Hurd is known for her roles as Shepherd in Blindspot and Detective Monique Jeffries in the first two seasons of Law & Order: SVU.

Though details on which characters these actors will portray are being kept secret, we do know Stewart will be making his return as Captain Picard, and will also act as executive producer. The last time Stewart portrayed this seminal character was in the 2002 feature film Star Trek: Nemesis.
In January, Star Trek producer Alex Kurtzman gave a few details on the show, describing it as grounded, saying “No matter what choices we’re making about how to portray the future, it has to feel grounded. One of the things people loved about Next Gen is that it was an emotional, grounded piece of entertainment. The easy thing to do is come up with crazy floating skyscrapers and all of the cliches of science fiction. We’ve tried to avoid that.”
As reported by Variety, the first two episodes of the show will be directed by Hanelle Culpepper, who has also directed two episodes of Star Trek: Discovery. The Star Trek Picard series is expected to start filming soon, and release sometime before the end of 2019.
