STORRS, CT — The University of Connecticut is set to host an eclipse viewing party at one of its most popular spots on campus.
The gathering is set for 2 to 4:30 p.m. Monday on Horsebarn Hill, behind the UConn Dairy Bar.
The maximum occultation of 92 percent is on track. for at 3:28pm.
The event will be similar to that of 2017 and the area will not experience another until 2079, UConn officials said.
In the United States, the path of totality extends from Texas to Maine, but each of the 48 continental states will see some of the solar eclipse, which occurs when the moon slips between our bright star and Earth.

The UConn physics faculty and students will have demonstrations to show the physics behind eclipses (why they don’t happen every year, etc.) and an area where people can make their own pin-hole eclipse viewing boxes. Solar telescopes will be on hand.
The undergraduate and graduate physics student clubs are going to be selling eclipse viewing glasses as a fundraiser.
