Hobby Lobby Backs Out Of Pittsburgh Expansion Plan

MONROEVILLE, PA — The Monroeville Convention Center will not close in June to be converted into a Hobby Lobby, local officials announced Tuesday.

Hobby Lobby and Oxford Development, which owns the property at Monroeville Mall, agreed that it is in the community’s best interest to terminate the Hobby Lobby’s lease at the location. Work will begin soon to contact vendors of shows that were scheduled for June 1 and later to host events that had been scheduled there.

State, Allegheny County and Monroeville officials issued the following joint statement on the situation’s resolution: “We are happy to announce that the Monroeville Convention Center will continue to welcome tens of thousands of visitors each year, supporting hundreds of local jobs and generating millions in economic activity.”
