GEORGIA — The Peach State is expected to enter a wet pattern the remainder of the week, though forecasters told Patch the forthcoming showers and storms should not be severe.
Ahead of the showers, several Georgia counties were warned of high fire danger conditions for Tuesday afternoon into the evening.
In a special statement, the National Weather Service said sustained winds of 10-15 mph is anticipated along with wind gusts around 25 mph. Relative humidities could remain above 25 percent.
“With dry fuels, high fire danger conditions can be expected. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities whether you may burn outdoors. If you do burn outside, use extreme caution,” weather officials said in the statement.
The special statement was issued for Paulding, Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Barrow, Clarke, DeKalb, Douglas, Cherokee, Forsyth, Bartow and several other counties.
Once the fire danger conditions pass, the rain should soon arrive.
NWS meteorologist Dave Nadler told Patch though a low chance of rainfall persists Tuesday, metro Atlanta may be spared from the raindrops. Few showers were mainly expected over north Georgia, he said.
However, a strong cold front entering the state late Wednesday into the night is forcing a chance of 100 percent for rain in the metro.
Chances were 60 percent in the Columbus area and even lower in the night hours in Savannah.
Additional systems will move through Georgia in coming days, though Nadler said no strong to severe weather is expected anytime this week.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast the remainder of the week through Monday, excluding Thursday.
Nadler said the wet pattern is not unusual for Georgia.
The southern state is currently experiencing an El Niño that is creating above-normal precipitation.
