LAMORINDA, CA — Patch reader Kevin Moss sent in this photo he took Tuesday morning of what appears to be a great horned owl helping monitor who is parking where.
Kevin used his iPhone for this “pic de jour” around 7:20 a.m. on Mountainview Lane in Lafayette.
According to the East Bay Regional Park District, the great-horned owl is among the common raptors in the region. These large owls nest early in the year, often taking over a used hawk nest, although tree holes, stumps, and caves are other options. Also known as the hoot owl, their deep hoo, hoo-hoo, hoo, hoo calls carry far through the night.
Thanks so much for sharing, Kevin!
